The number you came for
A single dental implant in Huatulco runs an estimated $850 to $1,500 USD. A zirconia crown on top of it runs $300 to $550. That is the restored tooth in two parts, and it is why quotes that look wildly different are often quoting different things.
These figures are estimated ranges that Molar City publishes for non-border Mexican destinations. They are not quotes. No honest clinic prices an implant case without imaging and an examination first.
What should be inside the quote
An implant case is a sequence, not a single item. Ask the clinic to itemise every line below, because the gap between a cheap quote and an expensive one is usually a line that was left out.
| Line item | Estimated range (USD) |
|---|---|
| Consultation and imaging | Often bundled - confirm |
| Implant fixture and placement | $850 - $1,500 |
| Abutment | Sometimes separate - ask |
| Zirconia crown | $300 - $550 |
| Bone graft or sinus lift, if needed | Case by case |
| Extraction, if the tooth is still there | Case by case |
Why two clinics price the same mouth differently
- The implant brand. Established systems from Switzerland, Sweden or the United States cost the clinic more than generic fixtures, and they are easier for any dentist anywhere to service years later. That matters when you live thousands of kilometres away.
- What the crown is made of. Monolithic zirconia, layered zirconia and porcelain-fused-to-metal are not the same product and do not cost the same.
- Who does the surgery. A specialist with implant training charges differently than a general dentist.
- What the price includes. The single most common reason a quote looks cheap is that the abutment, the crown or the imaging is priced separately.
- Grafting. If you have lost bone where the tooth used to be, someone has to rebuild it before an implant will hold.
How to compare quotes fairly
- Get the total for the finished tooth, not the fixture price. Implant plus abutment plus crown.
- Ask for the brand names of the implant system and the crown material, in writing.
- Ask what happens if a graft turns out to be necessary once they open the site, and what that would add.
- Ask about the warranty: what it covers, for how long, and whether it requires you to fly back to Huatulco.
- Ask how many trips the plan assumes and what happens between them.
The costs that are not in the quote
Flights to Bahias de Huatulco International Airport (HUX), lodging for the stay, food, local transport and, for implant cases, a second trip months later. If you are already wintering on the Oaxaca coast, most of those are already paid for and the arithmetic changes completely. If you are flying down specifically for one implant, run the numbers before you book: the savings on a single tooth may not clear the airfare.
Where Huatulco fits
Huatulco prices sit in the same band as other non-border Mexican destinations. It is not the cheapest option in the country and it does not pretend to be: the value is a compact, organised town with 49 clinics where a treatment week can double as a beach week. If price is the only variable that matters to you, compare against the larger inland markets before booking. You can see all 49 clinics ranked by digital footprint on the free Huatulco ranking.
A note on cheap
A quote well below every other quote is information, not a bargain. Ask what it excludes. Sometimes the answer is reasonable, such as a clinic with lower overheads or a general dentist doing straightforward work. Sometimes it is a generic fixture that no dentist at home will be able to service. Either way, you want to know before you are in the chair.
What Molar City is, and is not
Molar City has been an independent dental tourism directory since 2007. We are not a dental clinic, we do not practise dentistry and we do not set clinic prices. The ranges above are published estimates to help you budget. Your quote comes from the licensed dentist who examines you.
