Why Choose Panama City for Dental Care?

Panama City is the capital of Panama, a city of glass towers on the Pacific beside the entrance to the Panama Canal. It is not the cheapest place for dental work in Latin America, but it may be the easiest: you pay in dollars, fly direct from many US cities and land in a city that feels familiar.

A hub with direct US flights

Tocumen International Airport (PTY) is the hub of Copa Airlines and has direct flights to many US cities and to Toronto. From Miami it is under three hours. The airport is roughly 30 to 45 minutes from the banking district.

You pay in US dollars

Panama uses the US dollar as legal tender alongside its own balboa coins. Quotes, receipts and card charges are in dollars, with no exchange-rate surprises between the plan and the payment.

157 clinics tracked

Our October 2026 scan found 157 dental clinics in Panama City, many in medical towers in Obarrio, Marbella, Punta Paitilla and San Francisco. Prices sit above Colombia and Mexico but well below US averages.

The Canal and Casco Viejo

The Miraflores Locks visitor centre is a short drive from downtown, and the Casco Viejo, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has restored plazas, rooftop bars and the waterfront Cinta Costera.

How to Get to Your Dentist in Panama City

Patients fly into Tocumen International Airport (PTY), east of the city. Copa and several US airlines fly there direct from many US cities, which often means no connection at all.

Getting there

  • Direct from the US — Tocumen has nonstop service from many US cities, from Miami and Houston to the Northeast and West; check current schedules from yours.
  • From Canada — Toronto has nonstop service; from other Canadian cities connect in Toronto or a US hub.
  • From the airport — Authorised taxis or ride apps; roughly 30 to 45 minutes to Obarrio, Marbella or Punta Paitilla, longer at rush hour.
  • Getting around — Ride apps are widely used; the Metro links some districts. Traffic is heavy, so stay near your clinic.

Planning the trip

  • Book the flight after the plan — Send your X-rays, get a written treatment plan with the number of visits and days, then buy tickets.
  • Leave slack at the end — Keep one or two spare days before your return flight; bite adjustments are routine.
  • Confirm the language — English is widely understood in Panama City's medical towers, but ask who will treat you and get it in writing.
  • Rainy-season afternoons — From about May to November, heavy afternoon showers are common: book morning appointments and leave time for traffic.

Documents needed: A passport valid for your whole stay (many airlines and countries expect at least six months of validity) and a return or onward ticket. Entry rules change and depend on your nationality, so check the current entry and visa requirements for your passport with the official Panamanian government sources and your own government's travel advisory before you buy flights.

Panama City vs San José, Costa Rica vs Cancún

Three destinations a short flight from the US. Panama City and San José are Central American capitals with established medical sectors; Cancún is Mexico's best-known beach city.

Factor Panama City San José, CR Cancún
Best for Convenience: dollars and direct flights An established medical-tourism capital with nature nearby Lower prices plus a resort stay
How you get there Fly to PTY, direct from many US cities Fly to SJO, direct from several US cities Fly to CUN, direct from many US and Canadian cities
Currency US dollar Costa Rican colón; dollars widely accepted Mexican peso; dollars widely accepted
Price level Panama tier: higher than Mexico, well below the US Similar to or slightly below Panama Usually the lowest of the three
Best season Mid-December–April (dry) December–April (dry) November–April

If convenience matters most, Panama City is hard to beat; if price matters most, Mexico usually wins. Tell us your treatment and departure city and we will compare the three for you.

Dental Tourism in Panama City — Independent Guide by Molar City

Panama City is the capital of Panama, a modern city on the Pacific beside the Panama Canal. For dental patients from the US and Canada its appeal is convenience: the US dollar is legal tender, Tocumen International Airport has direct flights to many North American cities, and the medical sector is concentrated in modern towers close to the hotels.

We track 157 dental clinics in Panama City in our free, independent ranking. Prices are higher than in Colombia or Mexico, but still well below average US prices, and many patients accept that difference in exchange for a shorter, simpler trip.

Two practical notes. The rainy season, roughly May to November, brings heavy afternoon showers and slower traffic, so book mornings. And read your government's current travel advisory for Panama before you go, and follow normal big-city precautions.

At Molar City we have guided patients since 2007, starting in Los Algodones, Mexico, the world's best-known dental destination. We are an independent dental tourism platform — not a clinic, and we do not provide medical care: we compare, verify and guide. We apply the same standard in Panama City, Panama, as in every destination we cover.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Panama City for dental work?
Fly into Tocumen International Airport (PTY), the Copa Airlines hub, which has direct flights from many US cities and from Toronto. The airport is about 30 to 45 minutes from the main clinic districts, depending on traffic.
Is this Panama City, Florida?
No. This guide covers Panama City, the capital of the Republic of Panama in Central America (airport code PTY). Panama City, Florida, is a beach town in the US Panhandle.
How much does dental work cost in Panama City?
Panama City sits in Panama's pricing tier. A single titanium implant typically runs $1,200 to $1,800 USD, zirconia crowns $400 to $650, porcelain veneers $400 to $700, and All-on-4 full-arch cases $10,000 to $15,000. Those are city-level estimates, not a quote: the final number depends on the clinic, the materials and the complexity of your case, and only a written treatment plan will tell you what you will actually pay.
How many dental clinics are there in Panama City?
Molar City tracks 157 dental clinics in Panama City in its independent ranking (October 2026 scan). You can see the full list on our Panama City ranking page.

Yes. Panama uses the US dollar as legal tender alongside the balboa, which exists only as coins at par with the dollar. Clinics quote and charge in dollars, and US cards work widely.
Why is Panama more expensive than Colombia or Mexico?

Do dentists in Panama City speak English?
English is widely understood in the city's medical towers, and many dentists trained or took courses abroad. Still, confirm who will treat you and in what language before you book.
Panama City or San José, Costa Rica?
Both are established destinations a short flight from the US. Panama City wins on direct flights and dollar pricing; San José has a long medical-tourism track record and volcanoes and cloud forest nearby. Compare written plans from both.
