Why Choose Phuket for Dental Care?

Phuket is Thailand's biggest island, on the Andaman Sea coast, and one of Asia's best-known beach destinations. Its dental clinics serve a steady flow of holidaymakers and long-stay residents, so many are used to foreign patients. For the most complex cases Bangkok has the bigger market, about an hour and a half away by air.

Treatment plus holiday

Patong, Kata and Karon beaches, Phang Nga Bay and the old town give you plenty to do on rest days. Ask your dentist when you can swim, snorkel or dive after each procedure.

93 clinics tracked

Our October 2026 scan found 93 dental clinics in Phuket, spread between Phuket Town, Patong, Chalong and the beach areas of the west coast.

Its own international airport

Phuket International Airport (HKT) receives direct and one-stop international flights, including from Australia and the Gulf, plus frequent flights from Bangkok of about an hour and a half.

Pick your season

The dry high season runs roughly November to April. From about May to October the southwest monsoon brings rain and rougher seas, but also fewer crowds and lower hotel rates.

How to Get to Your Dentist in Phuket

Phuket International Airport (HKT) is in the north of the island. Patong, Kata and Chalong are in the south and west, so allow roughly 45 minutes to over an hour by taxi depending on where you stay and traffic.

Getting there

  • From Australia — Perth is roughly 5 to 6 hours away; east-coast cities take longer and often connect through Bangkok, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.
  • From the UK, the Gulf and the US — Gulf hubs fly to Phuket directly; from the UK and the US expect at least one connection.
  • Via Bangkok — Domestic flights from Bangkok take about an hour and a half and run many times a day.
  • Getting around — There is little public transport; use metered taxis, ride-hailing apps or a driver booked by your hotel or clinic.

Planning the trip

  • Book the flight after the plan — Get your treatment plan, the number of visits and the days between them in writing first, then buy tickets.
  • Leave slack at the end — Keep one or two spare days before a long-haul flight home; adjustments are routine.
  • Ask about aftercare at home — Find out what records, X-rays and material details you will take home so a local dentist can follow up.
  • Rest-day plans — Phuket Old Town, the Big Buddha and Promthep Cape are easy outings; save boat trips and diving for after your dentist clears you.

Documents needed: A passport valid well beyond your travel dates (many countries ask for at least six months). Entry and visa rules for Thailand depend on your nationality and change from time to time, so check the current entry and visa requirements for your passport with the official government source before you book. Thailand has been introducing online arrival formalities, so check what applies on your travel date. Read your own government's travel advisory for Thailand as well.

Phuket vs Bangkok vs Kuala Lumpur

Phuket is about combining treatment with a beach stay. Bangkok, a short flight away, has the larger dental market for complex work, and Kuala Lumpur is the English-speaking alternative a little further south.

Dental Tourism in Phuket — Independent Guide by Molar City

Phuket is Thailand's largest island and one of the busiest beach destinations in Asia. Its dental clinics have grown up around tourism and a sizeable foreign resident community, which is why many patients from Australia, the UK and the Gulf combine a check-up, crowns or veneers with a holiday here.

We track 93 dental clinics in Phuket in our free, independent ranking. They are concentrated in Phuket Town, Patong and Chalong, with smaller practices near Kata, Karon and the northern beaches.

Two practical notes. Surgery and the beach do not always mix: plan swimming, diving and boat trips around your dentist's instructions. And for full-arch or complex implant cases, compare Phuket with Bangkok, which has the larger specialist market about an hour and a half away by air.

At Molar City we have guided patients since 2007, starting in Los Algodones, Mexico, the world's best-known dental destination. We are an independent dental tourism platform — not a clinic, and we do not provide medical care: we compare, verify and guide. We apply the same standard in Phuket, Thailand, as in every destination we cover.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Phuket for dental work?
Fly into Phuket International Airport (HKT), either directly or through Bangkok, which is about an hour and a half away by air. The airport is in the north of the island; allow 45 minutes to over an hour to Patong, Kata or Chalong.
Can I swim or dive after dental work in Phuket?
It depends on the procedure. After extractions, implant surgery or bone grafts, dentists usually ask patients to avoid swimming, diving and strenuous activity for a period. Ask your dentist for written instructions and plan beach days accordingly.
How much does dental work cost in Phuket?
Phuket sits in Thailand's pricing tier. A single titanium implant typically runs $700 to $1,400 USD, zirconia crowns $300 to $550, porcelain veneers $300 to $550, and All-on-4 full-arch cases $8,000 to $14,000. Those are city-level estimates, not a quote: the final number depends on the clinic, the materials and the complexity of your case, and only a written treatment plan will tell you what you will actually pay.
How many dental clinics are there in Phuket?
Molar City tracks 93 dental clinics in Phuket in its independent ranking (October 2026 scan). The ranking is free, covers every clinic we can find rather than only partners, and is scored from each clinic's public digital footprint. No clinic can pay for its position. You can see the full list on our Phuket ranking page.
Should I choose Phuket or Bangkok?
Both sit in the same Thai price tier. Phuket suits patients who want a beach holiday with crowns, veneers or simpler implant work. Bangkok has the larger market and more specialists for full-arch and complex cases.
How do I check that a dentist in Thailand is licensed?
Dentists in Thailand are licensed by the Dental Council of Thailand. Ask the clinic for the treating dentist's full name and licence details before you travel, and keep them with your treatment plan.
When is the best time to go to Phuket?
The dry season, roughly November to April, has calmer seas and the most sunshine. The May to October monsoon season brings rain and rough water on west-coast beaches, but clinics work normally and hotels are cheaper.
Where should I stay in Phuket for dental appointments?
Stay near your clinic. Phuket Town is practical and less touristy, Patong is busy and lively, and Kata and Karon are calmer beach areas. Distances on the island are short on the map but traffic can make them slow.
