The short answer
Porcelain veneers in Bogotá typically cost $250 to $500 USD per tooth, compared with about $1,500 to $2,500 per tooth in the United States. Most smile makeovers cover the six to ten upper teeth that show when you smile. The treatment usually takes about a week in one trip. Bogotá has a large community of cosmetic dentists and dental ceramists, so the question is less whether you can find veneers than whether you can find the right design for your face.
What veneers do
A veneer is a thin ceramic shell bonded to the front of a tooth to change its colour, shape and length, or to close small gaps. In most cases the dentist removes a thin layer of enamel so the veneer does not look bulky. That step is permanent: the tooth will always need a covering. Veneers do not treat decay, gum disease or bite problems, which must be dealt with first. A careful clinic checks your gums and bite before it talks about shades.
Avoid any plan that grinds healthy teeth down to small stumps and calls the result veneers. That is crown preparation, and it sacrifices much more tooth than most cosmetic cases require.
Prices at a glance
| Treatment | Bogotá (USD) | Typical US price (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Porcelain veneer, per tooth | $250 – $500 | $1,500 – $2,500 |
| Zirconia crown, per tooth | $250 – $450 | $1,200 – $1,800 |
| Professional whitening | $120 – $250 | $500 – $1,000 |
| Cleaning | $30 – $60 | $150 – $300 |
If you plan to whiten the teeth that will not be covered, do it before the veneers, because their shade is matched to those teeth.
Materials
- Lithium disilicate, often sold as E.max, is the usual choice: strong, translucent and natural-looking.
- Feldspathic porcelain is layered by hand and can be the most lifelike in skilled hands, but it is more fragile and depends on the ceramist.
- Zirconia is very strong and less translucent, sometimes used for grinders or darker teeth.
- Composite veneers are resin applied directly in one visit: cheaper, but they stain and chip sooner.
Smile design
Many Bogotá clinics offer digital smile design: photos and scans of your face and teeth are used to propose a new shape, sometimes previewed in your mouth with a temporary mock-up. This is the most useful hour of the whole treatment. Look at the mock-up in daylight, talk, smile, and bring someone whose opinion you trust. Ask for a shade that looks bright but believable next to your lower teeth and your skin. The veneers that look artificial are almost always too white, too opaque or too thick.
How many do you need?
Smile widely in a mirror and count the teeth you see. For most people that is six to eight upper teeth, sometimes ten for a broad smile. Lower veneers are needed less often. Ask the clinic to mark on a photo which teeth they propose and why. A recommendation for twenty veneers on healthy teeth deserves a second opinion.
Veneers, bonding or crowns?
Healthy but yellow teeth may only need whitening. Small chips and gaps can often be fixed with composite bonding without removing enamel. Porcelain veneers make sense when colour, shape and proportions all need to change. Heavily filled or cracked teeth may need crowns instead. A good plan explains the choice tooth by tooth.
The one-week timeline
Day one: examination, photos, scans and smile design. Day two: mock-up approval, tooth preparation and temporaries. Days three to five: the laboratory makes the veneers. Day six: try-in, any changes, and bonding. Day seven: bite check and a spare day before your flight. Because there is no surgery, the altitude has little effect on veneer treatment, though arriving rested still helps.
Why veneer prices vary
The low and high ends of the Bogotá range are not just different clinics; they are often different products. The ceramic system matters, and so does who makes the veneer. A veneer milled from a block in an hour costs less than one layered by an experienced ceramist over several days. Clinics with their own laboratory can control shade and shape more closely, and may charge for it. Digital smile design, mock-ups and a careful try-in add time. When comparing quotes, check the material, the laboratory, whether the mock-up is included and how many appointments are planned, rather than just the price per tooth.
Lab days in Bogotá
The waiting days are free time. Walk La Candelaria's colonial streets, spend a morning at the Gold Museum and the Botero Museum, ride the cable car up Monserrate for the view over the city, browse Usaquén's Sunday market, or take a day trip to the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá north of the city. With temporaries in place, avoid very sticky or hard food and strongly staining drinks.
Questions to ask before you book
- Will I see a mock-up of the design before my teeth are prepared?
- How much enamel will you remove, and on which teeth?
- Which ceramic and which laboratory will you use?
- Can I request changes at the try-in before bonding?
- What happens if a veneer comes off or chips after I go home?
Living with temporaries
Between preparation and bonding you wear temporary veneers, usually made of resin. They protect the prepared teeth and give you a first feel for the new shape, but they are weaker than the final porcelain and can feel slightly rough or bulky. Cut food into small pieces, avoid biting into apples or crusty bread with your front teeth, and skip coffee, red wine and dark sauces where you can. If a temporary comes loose, call the clinic rather than gluing it yourself.
Care at home
Brush and floss normally, avoid biting hard objects with your front teeth and wear a night guard if you grind. Keep the shade and material details for your dentist at home.

How Molar City can help
Molar City is an independent dental tourism platform, not a clinic. Since 2007 we have helped patients compare clinics, read treatment plans and organise their trips, first in Los Algodones, Mexico, and now in destinations across the Americas and beyond. In Bogotá we rank every clinic we can find, 232 at the last scan, using public signals such as reviews, website quality and listing completeness. No clinic can pay for its position. Send us your X-rays and the plans you receive and we can help you compare them line by line.
