The short answer
All-on-4 replaces a full arch of teeth with a fixed bridge held by four implants, sometimes more. In Cartagena a complete arch typically costs $6,000 to $10,000 USD, against roughly $20,000 to $30,000 in the United States. It is the biggest saving in dental tourism and also the treatment where the choice of clinic matters most. Plan on two trips: surgery with a temporary bridge, then the final bridge three to six months later.
What All-on-4 is
The surgeon removes any remaining failing teeth in the arch, places four implants, usually two straight at the front and two angled at the back to make the most of the available bone, and fixes a full bridge on top. In most cases a temporary acrylic bridge goes in within a day or two of surgery, so you do not leave without teeth. After the implants have fused with the bone, the temporary is replaced with a stronger final bridge. Some patients need five or six implants instead of four, depending on bone quality; that is a planning decision, not an upsell, if the scan supports it.
Prices at a glance
| Item | Cartagena (USD) | Typical US price (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| All-on-4, one arch, complete | $6,000 – $10,000 | $20,000 – $30,000 |
| Full denture (for comparison) | $300 – $550 | $1,500 – $2,000 |
| Bone graft, if needed | $250 – $550 | $800 – $3,000 |
| Surgical extraction, per tooth | $80 – $180 | $300 – $800 |
For both arches, ask for a written total; it is not always exactly double, because some steps are shared.
Why the price range is wide
The low and high ends of the range are usually different products. The main variables are:
- The final bridge material. Acrylic on a titanium bar is the most economical; zirconia is harder, more stain-resistant and more expensive. Ask which one the price includes and whether the temporary and the final bridge are both included.
- The implant system. Premium international brands cost more than budget systems. Ask for the brand in writing.
- Extractions and grafts. Removing many teeth and rebuilding bone adds time and cost.
- Sedation. Many patients choose IV sedation for full-arch surgery. Ask who administers it and what monitoring is used.
What a complete quote includes
- Consultation and 3D cone beam scan.
- All extractions in the arch.
- The implants, with brand and number.
- The temporary bridge, fitted within days of surgery.
- The final bridge, with its material stated.
- Medication, sedation if used, and follow-up visits during both trips.
- The written policy if an implant fails or the bridge breaks.
The two trips
Trip one, about seven to ten days. Consultation and scan, surgery, then a few days of checks while the temporary bridge is adjusted. Expect swelling and a soft diet for the first week or more. Between trips, three to six months. The implants integrate with the bone while you wear the temporary. Follow the clinic's diet and cleaning instructions carefully; a broken temporary is the most common problem in this phase. Trip two, about a week. Final scans or impressions, a try-in, and delivery of the final bridge, with time for bite adjustments.
Choosing a clinic for full-arch work
Use the independent ranking of Cartagena dental clinics to build a shortlist, then go further than you would for a crown. Ask how many full-arch cases the surgeon has done, whether the surgeon and the prosthodontist are the same person or a team, and whether the clinic has its own lab for the bridges. Ask to see the scan and the planned implant positions. A clinic that is reluctant to explain its plan in writing is not the right one for the largest dental decision you will make.
Cartagena's dental sector is smaller than Bogotá's or Medellín's. If your case is complex, for example very little bone or a history of failed implants, it is reasonable to ask for plans from those cities too and compare them.
Recovery in Cartagena
The first days after full-arch surgery are for rest, cold soft food and medication on schedule. Choose a quiet, air-conditioned hotel near the clinic rather than a party street in Getsemaní. Swimming, sun and alcohol wait until your surgeon says otherwise. Many patients keep the old city walks and a day trip to the islands for the second trip, when they can enjoy them with new teeth.
All-on-4, dentures or individual implants?
Full-arch treatment is not the only answer to losing most of your teeth. A conventional full denture is far cheaper and needs no surgery, but it rests on the gums, moves when you chew, and the bone underneath keeps shrinking over the years. An implant-retained overdenture clips onto two to four implants and can be removed for cleaning; it is more stable than a denture and usually cheaper than a fixed bridge. Individual implants for every tooth are rarely necessary and cost much more. A fixed full-arch bridge such as All-on-4 feels closest to natural teeth and is not removed at home. A good consultation explains all of these, with prices, before recommending one.
Health conditions to discuss first
Full-arch surgery is a significant procedure, often under sedation. Tell the clinic in advance about heart conditions, diabetes, blood thinners, osteoporosis medication, previous radiation to the head or neck, and smoking. Ask your doctor at home whether you are fit for oral surgery and for flying soon afterwards. A responsible clinic will ask for this information itself and may want a recent blood test or a letter from your physician.
Looking after it at home
A full-arch bridge needs daily cleaning underneath with a water flosser or special brushes, and professional checks at least once or twice a year. Take your implant details and scan home so your local dentist can maintain it.

How Molar City can help
Molar City is an independent dental tourism platform, not a clinic. Since 2007 we have helped patients compare clinics, understand treatment plans and organise trips, first in Los Algodones, Mexico, and now in destinations across the Americas and beyond. In Cartagena we rank every clinic we can find, 160 of them at the last scan, on public signals such as reviews, website quality and listing completeness. No clinic can pay for a better position. If you send us your X-rays and the plans you have received, we can help you read them side by side and spot what is missing before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
How much does All-on-4 cost in Cartagena?
Typically $6,000 to $10,000 USD per arch as a city-level estimate, depending mainly on the bridge material and implant system.
Will I leave with teeth after surgery?
In most cases a temporary bridge is fitted within a day or two of surgery. Confirm this in your written plan.
How long between the two trips?
Usually three to six months, while the implants fuse with the bone.
Is a zirconia bridge worth it?
Zirconia is harder and more stain-resistant than acrylic but costs more. Ask the clinic to price both so you can compare.
Can I fix problems at home later?
Yes, if you bring home your implant brand and records. That is why a widely available implant system matters.
